The wheels were blasted and painted and fitted with new Michelin 36" x 6" tyres. These were very old stock found in a warehouse in France.

 

 

Head gaskets were made using the traditional copper/asbestos  sandwich  pattern

 

 

With the cylinder heads back in place the cooling pipes were re-instated. Original pattern hose clamps were used with brass wing nuts.

 

The starter motor Bendix spring had shattered into 4 pieces (Top right in the above picture). Fortunately a new old stock replacement was available from a specialist dynamo repair shop in Nottingham.

 

This shows the new Bemdix spring in position. Due to the high shock loads it is essential that the special fastening bolts are retained by tab washers. As there were unconventional in shape they had to be hand fashioned from steel sheet.
