Although the engine appeared to run quite sweetly a compression check revealed that all was not well with number 4 cylinder. Whilst all the other cylinders recorded a compression of around 6 1/2 to 1, number 4 cylinder hardly had any compression at all.

An endoscope through the plug hole revealed nothing amiss so the hope was that it was just stuck rings.

Am American treatment called 'Seafoam' is meant to the the magic potion for stuck rings, but two cans later there was no improvement. This was then followed  by a daily dose of diesel into the cylinder. The sump was totally removed at this time and the diesel could be seen dribbling past the piston. So off came the head. Being a TL the ladder on GXA95 provided a ready made lifting point for the winch.

As soon as piston number 4 started to emerge from the cylinder the problem was plain to see
